How do I calculate my exact age in Canada?

Choose your month of birth, then enter the day and year — the sequence commonly used across English-speaking Canada — and the tool will immediately compare it against today's date (or any other date you choose) to give you a precise breakdown of your age, rather than a rough year count.

Which date order does this calculator follow?

The boxes are arranged month, day, year, the order most often used in everyday English Canadian usage. Quebec and federal government paperwork frequently use day-first or the ISO YYYY-MM-DD style instead, so it's worth double-checking each value lands in the right box, since mixing up the day and month is the most common way an age calculation ends up wrong.

Age = (Reference date − Date of birth), carried across days → months → years When the day of the target date is smaller than the day you were born on, the calculator borrows days from the previous month; when the month is smaller, it borrows a year — exactly what you'd do counting on paper, just done automatically.

Can I check my age as of a date other than today?

Yes. The "Calculate age as of" field defaults to today, but you're free to set it to any other date. That's handy for working out how old you were on a particular occasion in the past, or how old you'll be when a CPP eligibility date, exam sitting, or permit renewal rolls around.

#Step
1Select your month of birth, then fill in the day and year above.
2Leave "Calculate age as of" on today, or pick a different date.
3Your age in years, months and days appears in the result panel straight away.
4Scroll to "Your time on Earth" for total days, weeks, months and hours lived.
5Check "Birthday & star sign" for your star sign and next birthday countdown.

What else does the calculator show apart from my age?

Alongside your precise age, the results include the day of the week you were born on, your star sign together with its usual date range, and a live countdown — with a visual progress ring — showing exactly how far you are through the run-up to your next birthday.

Is my date of birth stored or sent anywhere?

No. Every calculation runs locally in your browser using JavaScript. Your date of birth is never transmitted to a server, logged, or saved anywhere — close the tab and there's no trace left behind.

When might I need to know my exact age?

  • Checking eligibility for a driver's licence, CPP, or OAS benefits.
  • Filling in age or date-of-birth fields correctly on a passport, study permit, or job application.
  • Confirming a child's school starting age against provincial enrolment rules.
  • Finding out exactly how many days or hours you've been alive, purely out of curiosity.
  • Planning ahead for a milestone birthday with the built-in countdown.
